Pyramids have been the most fascinating and awe-inspiring structures till date. These mysterious structures have been explored several times but still they remain enigmatic. Also there are many questions unanswered. But few of them have definitely been answered.
When we turn the pages of Egyptian history we come to know that during the early dynastic period, those with good financial backing were buried in mastabas, which were bench like structures. The structure which can be actually termed as pyramid or historically documented as the first Egyptian Pyramid is the Step Pyramid of Djoser.
This first pyramid was the brainchild of the architect Imhotep who was to first who implemented the idea of stacking mastabas on top of each other. So came the Step Pyramid with altogether different and unique structure.
The actual structure came out to be number of steps that decreased in size towards its apex. The idea behind it was the huge steps will serve as the stairway for the soul of the deceased pharaoh to reach to heaven.
The later pyramids were different from those of Step Pyramid but laid the foundation stone for the architecture of later pyramids in Egypt.
