Lisht pyramids are located to the north of the village of same name around 19miles or 30 km south of Dashur. The pyramid of Amenemhet I and Senusret I were built at this place near the Fayoum Oasis. Lisht was a very popular and prominent place during the 12th Dynasty. The founder of the 12th Dynasty Amenemhet I moved his capital from Thebes to Lisht. This is where on the edge of the desert Amenemhet I (the northern pyramid)and his son's (the southern pyramid) pyramid exists.

The present structure of Amenemhet I pyramid appears to be the sand covered mound. Once a huge and amazing structure was built in the similar fashion as that of old kingdom Pyramids. The pyramid was originally 55 meters high and was cased with fine limestone. The builders were so inspired with the old kingdom pyramids that decorated limestone blocks in the pavement and core of the pyramids were actually the stolen ones from the old kingdom tombs of Giza, Sakkara and Dashur.

The second pyramid at Lisht is of Sesostris I or Senwosret I the son and the successor to Amenemhet I. It is on the Southern part also known as the South Lisht Pyramid. It was constructed with the original height of 61 meters.

Around both the pyramids are the several small pyramids of queen and mastabas of the higher officials. The Lisht pyramids are another feather in the cap of the glorious Egypt of the past.
