Saqqara at a distance of 30 km from the modern-day Cairo is a well known place for the famous Step Pyramid. It is a huge burial ground which served as the Necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital Memphis. The most striking feature of this place is, it has served as the necropolis for almost 3,000 years but the place has proved to be the birth place of new architecture of pyramids.
The total nine square kilometer of the complete Saqqara area is divided into two parts Saqqara North and Saqqara South. The North Saqqara has several cemeteries and pyramid complexes. The Northern Cemetery is of the 1st dynasty which has majority of mastabas from 5th and 6th dynasty and very few from 4th dynasty.
Teti's Pyramid lies to the Northern part of Saqqara along with the mastabas of his officials. Also to the north is the Djoser Pyramid and Unas Pyramid. Towards the North and West of Djoser Complex lay several tombs built on 3rd dynasty and later. Last but not the least there is Unas Pyramid with royal tombs built to the north and south if causeway.
