Zawyet el-Aryan Pyramids
The Zawyet el-Aryan is situated to the South of Giza and North of Abusir and Abu Gorab. In attendance are two incomplete pyramids at Zawyet el-Aryan. The oldest one is dated to the 3rd Dynasty and would have be a Step Pyramid had it been finished. The other pyramid was built anywhere during the fourth Dynasty, but it is not identified for sure by which ruler.
The two oldest recognized Step Pyramids were built at Saqqara, situated to the South of Zawyet el-Aryan, by the Horus Netjerikhet and his descendant Sekhemkhet, two of the third Dynasty.
An additional king of that family chose to build his funerary monument at some distance North of Saqqara. He also chooses to construct his monument close to the flood line. In this, he departed from the tendency set by Netjerikhet and Sekhemkhet, who built their pyramids well into the barren region.
